Nyla Thurston, 66, of Cortland passed away February 24, 2010. She was born May 6, 1943 the daughter of the late Louis and Hazel Curtis.
Nyla had lived in Cortland the past 35 years. She was co owner and operator of Thurstons Travel Agency with her husband. In her spare time she enjoyed being outdoors golfing, hunting, and fishing. She was also an active bowler in various bowling leagues.
She is survived by her husband of 35 yrs Phil Thurston of Cortland, daughter Debra Smith of Cortland, son Scott (Brenda) Thomas of DeRuyter NY, sister Veda (Luke) Meyer-Casten of Elmira, grandchildren Jessica, Zachary, Christopher, Elizabeth, Mackenzie, great grandchildren Brandon and Savannah, nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held Friday 1-2 pm followed by a funeral service to begin 2 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY. Spring burial will be at the Glenwood Cemetery, Homer NY.

Dear Phil and family, I send my sincerest sympathies to each of you. When my family was in great need on June 3, 1975 and I was returning from Ireland, Nyla made all the arrangements for a speedy, safe change of destination and arrival in Albany. We will never forget her kindnesses. God's love and blessings to you.
