Leon E. Rood 90 of Homer passed away February 17, 2010 in Cayuga Medical Center
Leon was born October 21, 1919 in the town of Scott the son of the late Leon L and Margaret Mahar Rood.
He had worked on his fathers farm until he married Lola King on December 24, 1939.
He worked for the Homer Town Highway Department for a few years before working for the Cortland County Highway Department for 20 years. In 1965 he joined the IUOE Union of Syracuse and worked in construction for 18 years. He retired in 1983.
After retirement he kept busy driving truck and cars for Valley Motors of Cortland, plus some odd jobs. Leon is survived by his sons Richard (Carol) Rood of Fruitland Park Florida, and Gerald (Barbara) Rood of Groton, his two grandchildren Laura (Jamie) Forbes of Fulton and Michael (Linda) Rood of Groton a step-grandson Randy Thomas of Florida his great-grandson joshua Alexander of Groton, sister Mary Hyde of Cortland, brothers Donald (Muriel) Rood of Cortland, Gordon (Jeanette) Rood of Homer, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents Leon was predeceased by is wife Lola King Rood in 2006, brother Leonard Rood in 1997 and half brother Francis Briggs in 1991.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Monday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave. with the Reverend Matthew Smith officiating. Spring interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call from 10:00 am - 11:00 am prior to the service.
