Jimmie L. Hicks, 81, of Cortland NY, passed away January 3, 2010 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. He was born December 13, 1928 in Homer NY, the son of the late Leonard and Eva Parker Hicks. Jimmie was a lifelong resident of the area. When Jimmie was young he worked as a pinsetter and at the Cortland Movie Theater. He went onto serve his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1953. Returning to Cortland he worked for several years at Durkees Bakery then with SUNY Cortland until his retirement. After retiring he continued to work part time for R.T.E. in McGraw and Ames Linen. He enjoyed meeting and talking with anyone he met. His memberships included the Cortland Moose Lodge, American Legion, and DAV. He is survived by his brother Luther Hicks of North Hampton, PA, sister Isabelle Cordary, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Jimmie was predeceased by his brothers William, Leonard Jr., Willie, sisters Dora Hicks, Sylvia Hicks Coville, and Barbara Hicks Rich. Calling hours will be Saturday 2-3:45 pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045 with a funeral to follow at 4 pm with Rev. William Haynes officiating. Spring burial will be held at the Glenwood Cemetery, Homer NY. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cortland American Legion.
