joseph J. Daluisio 83, of Groton, NY, passed away December 24, 2009 at Cortland Regional Medical Center, after a long illness. He was born November 21, 1926 in Trenton, NJ, the eldest son of the late Nicholas and Louise Daluisio. Joe was raised in Trenton, NJ, attending Saint James High School. He began his military career when he entered the United States Air Force in 1945. He served with the United States Army Airborne from 1951 - 1954 achieving the rank of Corporal. Joe continued his military career with the National Guards of New Jersey and New York, retiring at the rank of Sergeant from Company E 1/108 (M) Inf. of Cortland, NY in 1992. Joe was proud of his military accomplishments and was amember of the Disabled Veteran's of Cortland. Besides his military career, Joe worked in multiple areas though out Central New Yorkdoing construction, which included laying brick at SUNY Cortland. Joe was know by many local residents as the owner/operator of Joe's Bakery. His love of baking began when he was only 11 years old when he was known to help bake at Ross Bakery in New Jersey. When Joe was not working he spent many hours fishing or hunting, and as an active member of the former Memorial Baptist Church. Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Flynn Daluisio, his daughters Rosemary Russell and Karen (Kevin) Birtwell, and his son Nicholas Daluisio which all reside in Cortland. Grandchildren Michele Stoker, Shelly (Mary) Russell, Christine (Dale) Drake, Jessica Birtwell, and Matthew Birtwell. Great Grandchildren Miranda Stoker and Tyler Russell. Brothers Louie Daluisio of Trenton, NY and Salvatore Daluisio of Scottsdale, AZ, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on December 30, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the former Memorial Baptist Church now Church of the Redeemer, 125 Tompkins Street, Cortland, New York 13045 Spring burial with military honors will be held at Atwater Cemetery, Homer, New York. am so sorry for your lost. I am sure that papa Joe is going to be missed dearly. Even though I am sure you will all miss him dearly just rejoice to the fact that he has gone home to be in Heaven.
