Obituary of Richard "Dick" Taylor

Richard Dick Taylor 75, of NYS Rt. 41, Homer passed away November 14, 2009 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center. Dick was born August 22, 1934 in Homer the son of the late Charles Heavy and Gretchen Rhinehart Taylor.
Dick had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Germany. Throughout his life he had always been a very hard working man working up until his health no longer allowed him. He had been employed at Brewer-Titchner for many years, Conrail Railroad, Saulsbury Fire Equipment and most recently had worked for Tom Kile Construction. He was an avid sportsman, in his youth he played baseball for the Merchants and had boxed while in the military. He had been a member of the Burns-McCauliffe American Legion and had enjoyed bowling in local leagues. Dick deeply enjoyed the outdoors fishing and hunting and was very proud of his hunting dog Gretel.
Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years Dorla Johnson Taylor, two sons; Dale (Kathleen) of Virgil and Mark (Lynda Sweet) of Cortland, two sisters; Marie (Frank) Brown of Andrews, NC and Rebecca (Bill) Wood of Stanford, CT. His four grandchildren Sara and Matt Taylor, Hannah and Bethany Taylor, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Dick was predeceased by his parents and his brother Charles Sonny Taylor Jr.
Friends are invited to call on Wednesday 4:00-6:00 PM at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland. A time of Sharing and reflection will begin at 6:00 PM; anyone may share a story or memory about Dick. In lieu of flowers those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Homer Fire Dept. or the Burns-McCauliffe American Legion Post 465, 63 S. Main St., Homer
Dick was a good man. I remember breaking ground with him at the old saulsbury plant in preble.We had lots of good times.So very sorry for your great loss.I will think of dick often. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Daniel c. Plumadore jr.
