Marlin Clelan, 83, of Cortland NY, passed away October 16, 2009 at Northwoods at Cortland. He was born April 12, 1926 in Mechanicsburg, PA, the son of the late Samuel and Phoebe Clelan. Mr. Clelan served with the US Army during WWII, stationed in Germany . He was honorably discharged in 1946. Marlin was employed by Sears and Roebuck, and retired after 30 years of employment. Marlin was a longtime member of the Homer Ave. United Methodist Church, Cortlandville Masonic Lodge, serving as Past Master, and Cortland Eastern Star, serving as Associate Patron. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, fishing, and hunting. He is survived by his sons Joel (Mercita) Clelan of Dauphine PA, Jamie (Sally) Clelan of Clarence NY, sister in law Edith VanDenburg of Homer NY with whom he had resided with the past three years, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one niece. Mr. Clelan was predeceased by his wife Jane Clelan in 2000. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4-6 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave Cortland NY . Funeral services will be held Thursday 1 pm at Wright-Beard Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Sigourney officiating. Burial will follow in the Tully Cemetery. I didn't know him well, I remember Mr. Clelan from Homer Ave. Methodist. I was a kid and his wife was my teacher. I remember how he took care of her and was so kind and gentle as her eyesight faded. I always thought he was such a kind and senstive man. My thoughts go out to his family. Christine Foster
