Obituary of Franklin E. Bristol
Please share a memory of Franklin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Franklin E. Bristol 89, of Homer, New York passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends who truly loved him.
He was born August 14, 1020 in Naugatuck, CT the son of the late Howard H. and Alice Osborn Bristol.
Mr. Bristol met his future wife, Barbara at Westminster College in Princeton, New Jersey. They both studied cello under Jano Scholtz of Budapest Conservatory, the teacher of Yo Yo Ma in this country. He received master's degrees in cello and conducting. She received her degree in organ. They were married in Bristol Chapel at the college just before he went into the service in World War II..Mr. Bristol served with distinction in the 460th Bomb Group from Spinazzola in the 15 th US Army Air Force. He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters; this medal is awarded for valor and heroism in aerial combat. His family and friends are forever proud that many young soldiers were able to return to their families safely because of this heroic group.
Mr. Bristol and his wife Barbara moved from Skaneateles, NY to Cortland, NY to be close to their daughter Carolyn B. and son in law Charles M Wheeler. While here they served the community well through their affiliation with the Congregational Church, Meals on Wheels and their strong interest in the young people they met during their activities. Franklin and Barbara (deceased in 2003) are loved by so many whose lives they touched here. They have both been surrounded in death by caring people for this we will be forever grateful.
A memorial service will given in memory of both Barbara and Franklin Bristol on Wednesday September 30, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Homer Congregational Church. We look forward to receiving family and friends an hour before the service. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery directly after the brief service where full military honors will be given. Those wishing to be present are welcomed by the family.
If wished donations may be given to the Homer Congregational Church Organ fun or the Elizabeth Brewster House of Homer, the beautiful place Mr. Bristol called Home.

I was so sorry to learn of Frank's death, and I regret not knowing soon enough to attend the memorial service. Frank was a beautiful, kind man. We often sat together in church, especially when the list of hymns was one that was we knew would move either of us to tears. Frank supported me through many of my difficult songs, and I returned the favor when one of his (or Barbara's) favorites were sung. Frank was a wonderful person, and he will be greatly missed.
