Joanne C. Jo Williams, 61 of 1905 Crumb Hill Rd., DeRuyter, went to be with the Lord August 25, 2009. She passed away at home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Williams was born July 26, 1948 in Manchester, CT the daughter of the late Paul and Dorothy Clark Lenti.
Mrs. Williams was raised and educated in Manchester, CT... She moved to the area after marrying Martin "Skip" Williams in 1965. Locally she had volunteered at the DeRutyer Library and for a short time worked at Zayres Dept. Store in Cortland. She was a member of the United Church of DeRuyter and served as co-captain of Gideons Auxiliary. She spent most of her time raising and caring for her family and cherished the time she could spend with her children and granddaughters. For the past three years she was able to enjoy winters with her husband in Port Richey, Fl.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her husband of 44 years Martin Williams, her son William Williams of Binghamton, NY, her daughter Christine (Russell). Two brothers Louis Lenti of Colchester, Ct. and Franklin Reed of Mt. Pleasant, NC. One sister Mary Lenti of North Bend, Oregon. Her two beloved granddaughters Kayla and Michelle Williams, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday Aug. 29 at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave, Cortland with the Rev. Vern Groves officiating. Interment will take place in the East Cemetery in Manchester, Ct. on Tuesday Sept. 1 at 12 noon. Friends are invited to call on Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. It was a sad day when Donna called to let us know that that it was all over. Skip you have lost your love and best friend. Herb and I have sent money to the Gideons in Jo"s name. Sorry we can not be there but our hearts are with you in this time of despair.
