James E. Dexter 85, of Cortland, passed away March 30 , 2014 in Syracuse, NY
Jim was born July 23, 1928 In Cortland, the son of the late Coe F. and Grace Moss Dexter,
Jim served his country with the US Army .
Jim had been proprietor of Coe F. Dexter Market, and most recently was a meat cutter for Bill Bros. Farm Market.
People traveled miles for Jim’s specialty sausage.
He was a proud graduate of Syracuse University, his memberships included the Cortland Antique Car club, and the American Legion.
One of Jim’s greatest joys was his grandchildren, he deeply enjoyed attending and watching their activities and sporting events. He also enjoyed spending time with family at DeRuyter Lake.
Jim is survived by his daughter Suzanne (Glenn) Trinder of Hannibal, his grandchildren Rebecca (Scott) Lockwood, Glenn Trinder IV, James Trinder, Brian Trinder, his great grandchildren Pierce Lockwood, and Jordan Trinder.
Jim is also survived by his sister Susan (Dick) McKnight of Tully,
sister-in-laws Linda Dexter of Florida, Dorothy (Don) Gossett of S.C., brother –in-law John (Janet) Ducar of Oswego,and many close nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents Jim was predeceased by his wife Mary Anne Dexter and brother Coe Dexter.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Saturday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland, with the Rev. Lorrie Anson officiating. Interment will follow in Cortland Rural Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call from 4 – 7 pm Friday at the funeral Home.
