I remember Jay from my early days as a Midshipman at Fort Schuyler in 1945.
Jay was in the same compartment as me. At bedtime, the last bugle call was for lights out and silence about the decks. Just before we fell asleep, Jay pondered out loud in his "Hayseed Character voice the laconic statement about the flagpole outside. " I can't figure out if that bird is taking off or landing". It was about half an hour before we all stopped laughing.
He also did a "take-off" of a popular radio commercial at the time about the treatment for Psoriasis mispronouncing many of the words.
He had a good attitude and cheered many of us up at difficult times. He will be missed.

On behalf of the entire membership of Skate Creek Club we offer our most sincere condolences on Jay's passing.
Arriving to SCC in the late 70’s, Jay was a true gentleman who enjoyed the woods of the Adirondacks and his laughter / humor will echo within the walls of the club for many years to come.
Our prayers go out to the entire family.

Ellen and Bill, so sorry to hear about your Dad passing. I have happy memories of Jay singing around the piano at my folks house with Hughes, Gutchess, Pearse's and my folks. Your Dad always seemed to have a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Dave and Robin
