Christopher L Farkas, 62, of Cortland, NY passed away on November 27, 2015. Chris was born on June 14, 1953 in Ithaca. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Donna Bell Farkas; his children, Matthew (Courtney) Farkas of Cortland, Nathan Farkas of Tonowanda, Melissa (James) Crysler of Preble; his grandchildren, Otis, Elle, Claire, and Aiden; his siblings, Joel (Lea) Farkas of Virginia Beach, VA, Michael (Carol) Farkas of Lyndonville, Howard Makela of Groton, Steven Makela of Lansing, Linnea Makela of Baldwinsville; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father, John Farkas; his mother, Blanche Farkas; his brother, Raymond Farkas; and his sister, Dorinda Makela.
He was a survivor in every sense of the word. Chris overcame polio as an infant and the health related issues that accompanied it throughout the rest of his life. He faced every challenge with a smile and a positive attitude. He was known as a “jokester” and often made difficult situations easier for everyone around him.
Chris graduated from Lansing High School and continued his education at TC3 and Cayuga Community College, earning a degree in Communications. Following college, he worked at OCM BOCES and then SUNY Cortland. He continued his career at CAPCO and eventually became the Executive Director until his retirement in 2005. His office was a testimony to his love of monkeys as evidenced by the large collection he had on display. Chris was an active sports booster and could be found at his kid’s soccer and hockey games. He enjoyed being a commentator for the Cortland/Homer Golden Eagles High School Hockey team. He was also an active member of the Rotary Club.
