Obituary of Sanford "Sandy" Finkelstein

Sanford "Sandy" Finkelstein, 74, formerly of Cortland, passed away October 26, 2016 in Jupiter, Fl. He was born September 16, 1942 in Cortland, the son of the late Cyril and Mary Berardi Finkelstein.
Sandy was raised and educated in Cortland graduating from Cortland High School in 1960. He went on to attend and graduate from SUNY Morrisville and the University of Buffalo where he received his Bachelor's degree. After completing his education he worked briefly as an insurance agent with IDS Insurance Co.
Always a great bowler, he decided to test his skills and compete professionally as a member of the Pro Bowlers Association for three years. After touring, Sandy took his knowledge and love for the sport to Ithaca and then Connecticut, where he owned and operated bowling centers. He later relocated to Florida where he managed bowling centers in Merritt Island and most recently Jupiter. Sandy shared his love of bowling with people of all ages and took great passion in coaching the youth and local teams.
He is survived by his daughter Jenna Finkelstein, his son Andrew Dawson, his sister Fayann (Rocky) Searfoss, his niece Melissa Searfoss, his aunts and uncles Antoinette (James) Weinerth and Anthony Madonna, along with several cousins.
Calling hours will be Thursday, Nov. 3, from 4-7 pm. at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY 13045.
Services will be held Friday, Nov. 4 at 11:00 am at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, with burial to follow at the Temple Brith Sholom Cemetery located in the Rural Cemetery on Tompkins Street.
