Irene Foote was my godmother. She and my mother, Glenette Lamont, both taught at St. Mary’s in Cortland., and were close friends.
Mrs. Foote also taught 4th grade when I attended Homer Intermediate but we never connected then or after. I always heard nice things about her though.

My mother was a wonderful, caring, kind woman who we, as her children, learned from her example. If an ambulance drove by, we were taught to instantly pray for that person. She worked so hard to provide for us six children. Where others would have given up, Mom just stepped up her game. She had this wonderful ability to make whoever she was talking to feel special. She continued to do this right up to the end with her care givers and hospital staff. I am so grateful that the last month of her life, I was able to help take care of her. So many wonderful memories to hang on to for sure. I know my world will never be the same but am so comforted that she has reunited with her love ones in heaven. God sure got a wonderful angel the day my Mom passed. I will always love and remember and strive to be the mother she was to us six children. Many thanks to all of those who reached out to us all during this time period. Thank you all do very much.

Mama I miss you everyday every second , I sit in the house looking at the lake and the ducks and there is such peace with that makes me feel you are at peace . I was so blessed to have you as my mom and what a strong independent woman you were you fought all the battles and you did everything right . I am so glad I was with you with this transition wouldn't trade it for the world . Selfishly I didn't want you to go , but new your time was here . \My deepest sympathy to all the family of Irene. She was a great lady and a good friend through the years, We became pen pals back in the 1940's through the magazine "Miss America". We've kept in touch through all the years-she, her parents and friend, Liz, came to visit us at Star City, IN. in 1949 and we visited her and her parents and Uncle Duane in 1948. My husband Al, sons and I visited Irene and all your family in 1958 also. Uncle Duane also came to visit us two years. Take care-my prayers are with you all. May God Bless.

I had the pleasure to communicate via email with Irene for several years.. Though we never met in person, her intelligence and spirit came though brightly in those emails and if I were to think of one word for her, it would be 'pioneer'..today's generation of females could learn alot from her.
She was so supportive of listening to my recordings.
There is a saying that when we lose an elder, we lose a part of history.. She shared with me what life was like during her younger years and learning of those memories I will savor.

I am so sorry to hear of Irene's passing. I literally just wrote a long overdue note to her and had it on the counter and ready to mail!
She was a special lady, very feisty and one of my favorite patients. She gave me more gifts than any patient I have ever cared for!
Even though she was uncomfortable in the later years of her life, she always had a smile for me, and she was appreciative of everything.
I will miss her.

Mrs. Foote was the first teacher who made me believe, not just that I could become a writer, but that I already was one. When my child was diagnosed with cancer a few years ago, writing was sometimes the only thing that kept me moving forward. I am so thankful for her influence. She was a true example of an amazing teacher and I will be forever grateful for the impact she's had on my life. My sincere condolences to her family, who has lost an incredible person.

Sincerest condolences to all Irenes family.
I never met Irene in person. I'm one of many pen pals she made online & we've been friends for 20 years. She was a true teacher in every sense. She was a tower of strength, encouragement, wisdom, empathy & support to me whenever I needed a friendly voice. She felt like family. The hundreds of emails, facebook chats, Christmas cards, shared photos & laughs. What a beautiful person inside & out. Such strength to raise 6 children on her own.
I'll miss you Irene. Thankyou for being a part of my life for so long. May you now Rest In Peace.
