I came across this obituary by pure happenstance a couple of years later, in late 2020, but I would like to add my own memory from “way back then.”
I remember Anna and Dominick very fondly, even though I met them only once in person, and years later, after Dominick had passed away, I had a long, insightful phone conversation with Anna.
During my senior year in high school my own family had forsaken me and moved away, leaving me to fend for myself. Anna and Dominick had invited me over for dinner, in spite of my social ineptness at that time, which somehow they managed to overlook. They offered to be my “parents” at graduation, which I thought was a really sweet gesture, even though I was too awkward to graciously accept. In hindsight, I wish I could time travel back to that era and fix those social mistakes.
But it is a reminder, that Cortland during those years, was comprised of very generous and intelligent people, somehow belying the stereotype we have of small upstate rural towns.
It’s a fond memory.
