Obituary of Anna A. Pennello
Anna Assunta Ferro Pennello, 93, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born to Celestino and Madalena (D'Angelo) Ferro in Cortland on August 15, 1924. A fiercely proud Italian American and daughter of Cortland, she married Dominick Anthony Pennello Sr. on June 7, 1947. A mother of two, her daughter Suzanne was followed by her son, Dominick.
A life long communicant of St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, Anna was a member of the Altar Society. She also was a member of the Auxiliary of Cortland Memorial Hospital. She worked over 30 years at Crescent Corset Company of Cortland. Anna was a resident of the Elizabeth Brewster House in Homer, where she loved the many activities and time spent with friends there.
In retirement, she relished in her role as Grandmother and Great-Grandmother to Peter Yacavone and his wife Sherri and their son Nicholas of Charlotte, North Carolina; Aaron Yacavone and his wife Lori and their daughter Alexandria of Little Rock, Arkansas; Ryan D. Pennello and his wife Katie of Cortland, Matthew G. Pennello of Albany, Christopher C. Pennello and his fiancée Romi Swindon of Baldwinsville.
She is survived by her daughter Suzanne and her husband Peter of Evansville, Indiana; her daughter-in-law Mary Clare Hatch-Pennello of Cortland; her grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters Mary Patriarco, Celestina Paul, Salvatore Ferro, Patricia Durkee, and Richard Ferro; her dear friends Salvatore (Sam) and Joan Ferro, of Cortland; and many nieces and nephews, who knew her fondly as "Aunt Nannie".
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Dominick Pennello Sr, her loving son Dominick Pennello Jr, her mother and father, and beloved brothers and sisters Esther Stiles, James Ferro, and Robert Ferro.
The family will receive visitors 8:30am to 10:30am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be held at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church on Friday January 26th. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family has also requested memorial donations in Anna’s name to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospita.
