Obituary of Robert "Bob"` Biemer

Robert ("Bob") Biemer, aged 85, of Endwell, NY, passed away on July 11, 2018, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in Buffalo, NY on February 3, 1933 to Raymond and Cathryn (Davis) Biemer. Bob graduated from Hamburg High School, earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Kansas State University and later an MBA from Syracuse University. He also served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Bob worked as a mechanical engineer in Cortland, NY for Pall Trinity and Agway before joining Smith-Corona, where he was later supervisor of standards engineering. In 1990, Bob moved to the Binghamton area, retiring in 1995. Friends and family knew Bob as a lover of international travel, opera, and good wine. He enjoyed gardening and winemaking, but his real love was woodworking, which he did in his "Sawdust Therapy Shop," where for almost 50 years Bob designed and built beautiful wooden tables, chairs, beds, cabinets, and even an Adirondack guide boat. Besides his wife of 48 years, Linda Hill Biemer, Bob is survived by his children, Rob Biemer, Erich Biemer, Kate (Paul) Mendillo, and Chance (Renata) Briggs; his grandchildren, Garrett Wyatt and Maxwell Briggs; his mother-in-law, Jane Hill; two sisters-in-law, three nephews, five nieces, and eight great nieces/nephews. In addition, Bob was a father figure to many other quasi-adopted Binghamton University international students. Bob was predeceased by his sister, Judith Biemer Paulus, and her husband, Richard Paulus, of Hamburg, NY. The family will receive friends for an informal gathering of remembrance in the Social Hall at Good Shepherd Village in Endwell, NY on Saturday, July 14th from 2 to 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Americans United for Separation of Church and State, or the New York Civil Liberties Union would be appreciated.
