I only knew Rose briefly. At the time I was working at Frank Hoxie's jewelry store located in the McNeil bldg on Main Street. Rose stopped in occasionally to look over the inventory and we always had a very pleasant conversation. Rose was a charming, humble and delightful person to talk with. I regret I could not get to know her better but everyone who had that privilege loved her very much.
My sincere condolences to the entire McNeil family.

Mrs. McNeil was such a sweet lady and a wonderful wife and mother. As a childhood friend of the family and member of Dan’s band, The Creation, I’ve had the pleasure of spending many hours at their home. Mrs. McNeil put up with our noise for years and fed us on many occassions! One of the most entertaining meal memories, was a delicious “Italian” specialty called, “Escargot!” - which everyone else knew about, except me. When I asked more about the meal, she smiled and calmly explained, “George, these are snails”. That got my attention and... I asked for more! There were times when there was no “monkeying around,” but many many more times of excitement and fun. I’m so glad to have grown up when I did in Cortland, with the opportunity to get to know Mrs. McNeil! We will miss her, while we can all hear her calming supportive voice to this day... giving us encouragement. God bless you Mrs. McNeil.
