Obituary of Rose McNeil
Please share a memory of Rose to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Monday, December 17, 2018 Rose McNeil passed away peacefully with the love and peace of her family, in the comfort of her home.
Born Rose Madelyn Valentine, May 8, 1923, she was the daughter of Louise and Anthony Valentine of Cortland, NY. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her many cousins and large extended family. She married her husband of 64 years, Daniel McNeil in 1954 after two years of courtship. Led by Rose, a true matriarch, they began a most incredible life of family; rooted in love and support.
Rose took great pleasure as a fulltime homemaker and always put family first, as she loved unconditionally and always stood strong in her faith and convictions. Because of her selfless efforts, her husband and children have thrived in their life's paths, as Rose always provided them the foundation and strength to succeed. Rose was an integral part of the Dan and Rose McNeil Foundation. As a result, Rose has most recently been recognized through the naming of Rose Hall Music Center and the FHN Medical building, The Rose.
In addition to her husband Dan, Rose is survived by her six children, Daniel III (Danielle), Peter (Sherry), Paul (Soterios), Anne (Jeff) Chambers, Mary McNeil, David (Christine); 7 grandchildren, Lauren (Derek) Davis, Robert, William, Kevin, Rachel and Brent McNeil, and Daniel Chambers; and 1 great grandchild, Marshall Davis. In addition to her parents Rose was predeceased by her brother Joseph.
Rose was a parishioner of St. Margaret's Church in Homer, where family will receive friends Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. A funeral mass will take place on Friday at 10 am at St. Margaret's with Rev. Paul J. Alciati presiding.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to St. Mary's School, Cortland, NY, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are in the care of Wright Beard Funeral Home.
