Derek K. Barnes, 45 of Cortland passed away suddenly from natural causes on February 4, 2019 at his residence. He was born on October 3, 1973 in Cortland, NY a son of Gene and Kathy Russell Barnes.

 

Derek was a salesman for Royal Chevy in Cortland. He enjoyed playing video games and traveling with his son Harrison. Derek was a Hockey Goalie and known for his sarcastic dry humor. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family as well as taking trips to the casino, he truly enjoyed overnight excursions and driving around trying to get lost. Derek was very patriotic and proud of the American Flag!

Derek is survived by his fiancée, Nicole and her son Cole, his son Harrison, parents Gene and Kathy, one brother, Brett, a niece Annie and nephew Gino.

 

Calling hours will be held Thursday 4-7 PM at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Friday at United Presbyterian Church, 25 Church St, Cortland, NY 13045.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Central New York Autism Society of America, 4465 E. Genesee St., Suite 252, Syracuse, NY 13214
