John D. Evans, 64, of Cortland, passed away March 15, 2019 at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton, NY. He was born December 1, 1954 in Cortland, the son of the late Edward and Frances Anecelle Evans. John was a lifelong resident of Cortland, graduating from Cortland High School. After high school, John worked for Hayes Ambulance and joined the Cortland Fire Department as a volunteer. Soon after, he began his 24 year long career with the Cortland County Sheriff's Department while also working part-time for the Village of Homer Police Department. John was a longtime communicant at St. Anthony's Church, where he donated his time and services wherever and whenever he could. John was a loving and dedicated family man. He enjoyed camping, watching westerns, and listening to his favorite musical group, The Beatles. Throughout all his years of sickness, John always had a smile on his face. He was loved by many and will be missed dearly. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Felicia Hess Evans, his children Laurie Evans, Ed (April) Evans, Nicole Evans, Kayla Evans, and also his K-9 companion Gimli. His grandchildren Issac, Abbie, Kaylee, Andrew, MacKenzie and Isabella, his siblings Jerry & Connie Evans, Sandra & Steve Hall, Jean Walsh, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4-7 p.m. at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home Inc., 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland NY, 13045. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, Cortland NY. Burial will follow at the St. Mary's Cemetery, Cortland NY.
