Obituary of Lloyd R. Holdrege

Lloyd Holdrege, 98, died peacefully at Guthrie Cortland hospital on March 19, 2020. He was born in Truxton, NY, on April 29, 1921 to Lulu (Wicks) and Ray Holdrege. He spent his life in Truxton and was a farmer most of his life. He also worked at SUNY Cortland as a grounds keeper, as an insurance agent, and a town assessor, as well as a local boat factory. He was a life-long member of Truxton Methodist Church and a 75 year member of the NYS Grange.
In 1946 he married Marion Cook and together, they raised four daughters, who survive him: Lois (Ned) James, Charlotte Holdrege, Janet (Jeff) Cole, and Elaine (Joe) Dec; grandchildren - Brian James (friend Diana Humphrey), Greg (Lauren) James, Stacy (Chris) Coleman, Bradley Cole, Kristen (Patrick) Griffin and great grandchildren: Ethan, Claire, and Elle James; Noah, Eli, and Ava Coleman. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion (1994), and granddaughter, Michelle Cole (2014).
Lloyd will be remembered by his family as a kind, fair and loving father. He had a love of God, family, history, and the Bible. He touched many peoples' lives and will be remembered as an inspiring role model because of his quiet way of expressing his opinions and philosophy of life. He was truly a gentle man.
Arrangements will be completed at a later date. Donations may be given to the Cortland Meals on Wheels, the Truxton Fire Department, Truxton Methodist Church or organization of your choice.
