My bookclub read a book about libraries this month and the discussion leader asked us to each share a "library memory". My memory was of when I was a student at the campus school at SUNY Cortland and how Mr. Schehle would read out loud to us. I loved the books he read and I read many of the same books to my daughter when she was a child. I saw him again in 2015 and he remembered me (I was flattered) and I remembered him and the books he read to me (He was pleased). I am still an avid reader and lover of literature and I know this is in part due to him. Thank you, Mr. Schehle, for all that you did. Rachel Slaugh

In Mr. Schuhle's presence, we Campus School students knew that we were loved and respected. He was wise, kind, funny, generous and just spectacular. To this day, I love being read to and love reading aloud. I am grateful to have been among Mr. Schuhle's students.

I just heard of the passing of Mr. and Mrs. Schule. They were dear friends of my parents, and Mr. Schule was my librarian when I was a student at the Campus School. As I am a librarian now, he figured prominently in my admiration for the work and my love of books. Mrs. Schule was always a kind and smart conversationalist, and my mother greatly respected her friendship. My condolences to the family.

Jake and Betsy were wonderful friends to all who met them. I arrived on campus shortly after Jake so have known them in many situations during our long time in Cortland. They were pillars of the community and assisted so many people. Sending love to their family and friends, Breta Sisson

Mardis and family,
My deepest condolences.
It was only about a month ago that you talked with me about Jake and Betsy Schuhle and how lucky they were still to be living in their own home... but with help.

John & family,
Condolences in the loss of both your parents in a short time. I really didn't know your mother, but Ella worked with Jake and thought very highly of him. She looked forward to the days Jake would come into the library after he had retired. He was a sweet and gentle man.

Jake and Betsy Schuhle earned a warm place in the hearts of all whose lives they touched on the campus of the State University of New York College at Cortland and in the wider Cortland community. Their generosity, kindness, and positive dispositions delighted us all. They will be deeply missed by their family as well as by the wider community.

I lived on Sands St. Back in the late 60's and 70's across the street. They were very friendly neighbors and always had a smile . Many of the people that lived on Sands st. Were always outside talking to each other and our children played together. I am truly sorry for the loss of your Parents and Grandparents. My Love and prayers are with you all. They will be truly missed. May your many memories bring you comfort. Sincerely Julie Sweet Weaver.

Jake was a part-time colleague of mine at Memorial Library back in the early 2000's. I worked as an Instructional Materials Designer and had the back office by his Archives area. It was terrific to get to know him while we were sharing that space. He and I enjoyed watching the flocks of Cedar Waxwings arrive each spring. They would stay busy eating the berries in the crab apple trees right outside our window. Jake was always kind and generous. The "go to guy" for any and all questions related to Cortland State's History. He will be missed indeed!

So very sorry for your loss. Jacob always had a kindhearted presence about him. I remember seeing his tall stature walking to work with his brief case. Such sweet neighbors Jacob & Betsy were. Praying for the family at this difficult time. May the love & memories sustain you.
