Obituary of Richard P. Alger

Richard P. Alger Sr., 73, of Cortland passed away December 24th, 2020 with his love of his life at his bedside. Dad is survived by his loving wife Martha Alger of Cortland(married 55yrs), sons Richard Alger Jr(wife Mel) of Watertown, Timothy Alger of Cortland, and daughter Robin Alger(partner Timothy Mcgillicuddy) of Killarney Ireland, his Brother Walter Alger Jr(Mary Lou) of Newark Valley, and the loves of life, his grandchildren, James(Erin), Kimberly Alger(Jessie), Joey Lynch, Joshua & David Alger, and Andrew Mcgillicuddy, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father Walter Alger Sr(Rose) and mother Edith Ashford(Richard). Dad grew up in Cortland and graduated from Cortland High School where he ran track and played basketball. He met love of his life at A&W where mom was a carhop. Dad was a hard working man and enjoyed family time whenever he could. He worked at Brewer Tichner, Gutches Lumber, and last 10yrs before retiring at his favorite job, custodian at Parker School where he truly enjoyed the staff and kids. The family is planning a gathering late summer to celebrate his life.
