Obituary of John Lansdowne

John Lansdowne, of Truxton passed away February 5, 2021 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born April 10, 1925 in Cuyler, NY, the son of the late and Sylvia Bush Lansdowne and John Lansdowne. John was married to Sally Riley Lansdowne who predeceased him 2001. They celebrated fifty three years of marriage.
John served his country during WWII in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre, and was honorably discharged from the US Navy. He had been employed with Lane Construction Inc. for thirty seven years. Following his retirement he continued to work at Labrador Mountain Ski Resort. John was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick's Church in Truxton, and the Cortland VFW. John was the oldest living member of the VFW, having served as past commander, past trustee, and quarter master. He also served as councilman for the Town of Truxton and was proud advocate of the Truxton Academy Charter School. John was a former member of the Truxton Fire Dept.
He is survived by his sons Jack Lansdowne, Jim (Paulette) Lansdowne, his daughters Linda (Jim) VanWagenen, Anne (Dave) Grant, his brother Donald (Shirley) Lansdowne, his sister LaVerna Gillette, his grandchildren Amy (Steven) Duvanich, Brenda (Jamie) Baker, Dalton Lansdowne, Will Frazier, Melissa (Dan) Partigianoni, Matthew (Andrea) VanWagenen, Andrea VanWagenen, John (Erin) Lansdowne, Leonard (Laura) Lansdowne, Casey (Jillian) Grant, Riley Grant, Gabby Grant, great grandchildren Olivia, Nicole, Julia, Jenna, Ryan, Hannah, Andrew, Kendalyn, Kolton (Leeanna), Karlee (Mike), Kollin, Kerrigan, Anna, Jack, Aliva, and Jimmy, and one great grandchild Jace, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Also predeceased by his brother Gerry Lansdowne, and grandson Jamie Lansdowne.
Calling hours will be Monday 11 am – 12:45 pm at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 3656 Rt. 13, Truxton NY, 13158. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following calling hours at 1 pm at St. Patrick's Church. Spring burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Truxton.
