Obituary of Vincent J. Picerno

Dr. Vince Picerno died suddenly on March 18th, 2021. He was 95 years old. Born in Buffalo, New York, Vince Picerno was a WWII veteran, serving as a combat medic in the 5th Infantry Regiment of the 71st Infantry Division. After returning from Europe, he attended Canisius College, Syracuse University, and Northwestern University earning a doctorate in music. He and his wife Julia then moved to Cortland where he was a long-time professor of music at the college and head of the department for several years. He was also a long-time member of the Rotary club and worked as a volunteer Board Member for the Cortland Memorial Hospital Foundation.
He is survived by his sons Greg (Raysha) and Jay (Erin) as well as five grandchildren: Jacquelyn, Caitlyn, Julia, Alex and Grace. He is preceded in death by his wife Julia and sister Lucille.
Services will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cortland, NY, Tuesday March 23rd at 11:00 am. Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc. is assisting the family with arrangements.
