Susan Jones, 68, of Cortland, N.Y. passed away peacefully in her home with her family at her side on
April 8, 2022 after a long courageous fight.
Sue was born on August 9, 1953, in Cortland, the daughter of the late Frank J. and Katherine E. Ferguson
Cook. She lived for her family and her grandchildren. She was a beloved wife, mother, nana, sister,
aunt, and friend. Sue was a faithful servant of God and loved the Mother Virgin Mary. Sue also loved
quilting and spent time making sure everyone in her family had quilts that were made with all her love.
Every year, Sue and her husband loved going to the State Fair together. Susan went to Saint Mary's,
Tompkins Cortland Community College, and Morrisville State College where she graduated with her RN.
She began her career working at St. Joseph's Hospital. Later, she was a dedicated public health nurse
and school nurse for Smith School where she touched many lives throughout her career. She gave of
herself with her whole heart and left her love imprinted on everyone she met.
Sue is survived by her loving husband, James Jones of Cortland, NY; her daughter, Sara (Scott) Jones of
Clifton Springs, NY; her daughter Lisa (Jonathan) Benedict of De Ruyter, NY; her sister, Anne (Raymond) Hulbert of Penfield, NY; her beloved grandchildren: Conner, Samantha, Franklin, Sophia, Scotty, and Susan; her nieces, Heather, and Shelly; and her nephews, Patrick, and John.
Sue is predeceased by her parents and her brother, Joseph Cook.
A mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Church will be held on Wednesday at 10:30AM. The mass will
also be live streamed for those who need to attend virtually through Sue's obituary page on the Wright-
Beard website. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
