Obituary of Glenda Chiara

Glenda Chiara, 70, of Cortland passed away peacefully on December 15, 2022 at Cayuga Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on January 16, 1952 to her parents the late Glen Lasby and Marilyn Seltzer-Lasby. Glenda worked from the day she turned 16, as a waitress, hairdresser, cleaner, and in retail; later, as a receptionist and billing specialist at regional hospitals; forever as the well-known local seamstress; and most importantly, as a mother who would do anything for her boys. An avid reader, she supported libraries and personally stocked local book sharing boxes. After retirement from Cayuga Medical, she was a frequent volunteer at Catholic Charities, helping to feed those in need. She felt and cared very deeply for everyone, and had only one regret when illness gradually took her mobility: that she couldn't do more to help. She is survived by her children Christopher and Jeffrey Chiara; her long time companion Jim Regan and her siblings Deb Lasby, Robyn Lasby, Gary Lasby, and Kim Hone.  There are no scheduled services at this time.  Throughout her entire life, Glenda held much pride in her father’s service in the United States Marine Corp.  Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in her honor are asked to consider a donation to the Cortland VFW or the DAV.
