When my daughter was 6, Joanne told a story to a group of children that included my daughter. She told a story of Mary and Joseph, and inevitably divulged a small piece of information about what "consummating" meant. It wasn't at all inappropriate, but Joanne was so upset with herself for it. I had to reassure her that if anyone was going to help my child be appropriately knowledgeable about such matters, I would choose Joanne every time. She was such a sweet and loving person with a pure heart of gold. My entire family loved her. I never met anyone that didn't love her.

Having known Joanne since teen years, through Aunt Velma, we considered each other extended family. Sharon attended Jo and Bob's wedding which is still vivid in her memory. Jo and Bob visited us in several states over the years where we served in ministry. Our sons were born a few months apart 48 years ago. Jo and Bob have been a blessing to many people through their shared ministry in the Salvation Army. Jo had a great faith and lived a life of service and love for her family,
friends and acquaintances. She and Bob blessed our lives for over 60 years. We are sad at her passing, but have joy in knowing she is with the Savior she served her whole life.

I had the privilege of sharing 2 years of training with Joanne and Bob.
Joanne enjoyed a good laugh and we shared many memories of times together in Massachusetts.
God blessed my life through their faithfulness to their calling.
During these days I pray for God’s blessing on her family, especially her son, James.
May God honor their years of hard work as He further grows and fulfills His promise to complete the work in the many peoples lives that He began through their hands.
I look forward to sharing the various victories His hand as wrought through both Bob and Joanne as we share eternity in His Kingdom.

My first connection with Joanne was in 1960 when I was appointed to assist Major Velma Magee in Pen Yan, NY.
I was only there 6 months but the fact that Joanne was there made it a most interesting time.
She worked so hard before and after school doing all sorts of things. She was so much joy to be around.
She must of told me that her mother and father were Ina and Leo, but I don’t remember that she did. The strange part is that I left Pen Yan to marry a Leo.
We were never stationed close by, but my memories have always been really good ones. I know she is missed by family and all who knew her.
God bless you all!

Jimmy - You have been in my prayers thoughout the last few days. Reading through the comments on Facebook, your mom was a friend to many, including me. I've recounted the many reunions over the years and the fun we had when everyone was together. Now she's together again with those who have gone before us, and I'm sure Aunt Velma had a list of things for her to do once she arrived. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers

Q: How did you meet Joanne?
A: I met Joanne at the Lynn, MA Salvation Army. She and Bob shared so much. If I ever needed someone to speak to about almost anything, she was there. Thanks for all the little talks. You will be missed but never forgotten. Love you both.

My family has known Joanne, and later Bob, for years. We met her through Aunt Velma McGee who rented a house from us for a number of years. I always found Joanne to be a kind and loving person and it was a privilege to have known her. Donna Smith

Joanne was always a burst of sunshine even on her darkest days. She found humor in all situations, sharing her infectious laugh. When I think of her, I think of love, laughter, rice pudding, faithful Salvation Army soldier, bell ringing at the kettle with Bob, and so much more. Prayers surround her family during this time of loss.
