Obituary of Burt S. Abdallah

Burt S. Abdallah, 89, of McGraw, passed away on March 23, 2023 at the Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.
He was born on May 8, 1933 in Solon, to his parents the late James Abdallah and Anna H. Ferris. Burt served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He began his career working on the family dairy farm before changing paths and working in construction and carpentry. After a period of two years, Burt was recalled into the Army for the Berlin Crisis. Upon his discharge he went on to be the proud owner of Abdallah Construction for 35 years and went on to drive school bus for over 13 years in the McGraw District.
Burt lived a life of involvement. He served on the McGraw School Board, was a life member of the McGraw Sportsman's club, a member of Post 775 McGraw American Legion, an active member of the McGraw United Methodist Church, and was a Volunteer with the McGraw Fire Department. He was an avid fisherman and was an avid woodworker and pitch player. He also loved gardening, tending to his flowers and vegetables.
He is survived by his son Matthew of Commerce Township MI; daughters Rowena (Scott) Adamowski of Alexandria Bay, NY and Diana 'Julie' (Jeff) Hancock of Hartland MI; a brother Robert J. Abdallah of Cortland; sister Virginia (Danny) Lang of Clay, NC; sisters-in-law Kay (Rod) Birdsall of Homer and Janice Allis of Cortland; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years Diane, and his siblings James Abdallah, Moses Abdallah, Josephine Ripley and Gladys Payne; and brother-in-law Richard Allis.
A memorial service will be held on Monday March 27, 2023 at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc., beginning at 11am. Full services including visitation and memorial service will take place at the McGraw United Methodist Church, and a graveside service and celebration of life will follow, all on May 13, 2023. Further details will follow in an upcoming notice. All are invited to attend all services.
