John was a close friend in law school, many many many years ago. We lost track of each other somehow; distance, I guess. Last year I was trying to locate him to tell him of the death of his law school roommate but could not track him down. I surely am sad to finally find him.....too late. Rest in Peace, John.
(Dean Kharis is glad to see you again.|)

We will miss John's wisdom about so many things. We knew him through CRT but considered him a friend for many years. He was always available to help in whatever needed to be done. We will always remember his speeches at CRT events. What a great guy!!

I had many connections with John. The first was being the science and math teacher of his great kids - Todd and Tiffany - at McGraw HS. I wish them all the best. John was President of the McGraw School Board and I was faculty association president for a few years. John and I occasionally found ourselves on opposite sides of an issue, but the discussions were always cordial and respectful. He had a great sense of humor. Also, at McGraw, I had the pleasure of performing with John in the pit orchestra, where he played trombone in the annual musical play. And one further memory - John kindly offered me legal advice when my own teenage son got himself into a pickle. Thanks to John for all those memories. Jim Weiss

I first met and worked with John when he was a member, and later President of the McGraw School Board of Education. I liked and greatly respected him.
Years later, it was always a joy to see him at the Community Restaurant. I will miss his presence in Cortland. He was an asset to the community.
Sincerely, Steve Littlefield

I love you. You weren’t just our family attorney, you were my family.
My heart is shattered. Next to my grandfather…you were my main guy. I know you are now with your beautiful wife and enjoying the Cosimo Trio in heaven. You still owe me dance. And one day…I’m calling in that ticket.

I was privileged to have John welcome me in earnest to the Cortland County legal community as I started in 2000. He made me feel very welcome and that gave me tremendous confidence. I have always been very thankful for that. Additionally he had shared the same warmth to my daughter the last few years in various public interfaces as she is just now starting her local legal practice.
A story that I have to share or I would be remiss would be way in the beginning, I was brand new & very unsure of myself. I was thrust into a large business transaction. John and I represented opposite sides of the transaction. The parties were at an impasse and time was dragging on, tempers by our clients were mounting, pressure on us was building.
We were about to engage in a long planned, very difficult face to face meeting, all parties plus counsel. John started the meeting off with a bang and a difficult question right at the outset. To which I replied, John, Why can't you ask something easy like how's the fishing?.
The group laughed and took a breath. From there forward, for the ensuing 2 plus decades, he started every conversation with me with a How's the Fishing? I remain privileged to know John.

John and his dad were the impetus for Linda and I moving to Cortland in 1973 after graduating from law school in Syracuse. My professional career was started under his tutelage and continued for 47 years until I finally retired in 2020. I have always been grateful for the opportunity John extended to me to make Cortland my home for all of those years.

I will miss working with John in the Cortland Old Timers Band - he was a great player and announcer. My sincere condolences to his family. I am glad that we will always be able to look back fondly and remember him with our Band's Anniversary DVD. John had some really great stories to contribute (as our announcer/narrator) and I'm glad he shared them with us. https://youtu.be/emlwkYMElSY - Rest in peace, John.

John was incredibly helpful to me with the Old Timers Band. He was justifiably proud of his long time involvement with the band and welcomed the opportunity to serve as our announcer when he was unable to play his trombone. A fellow SU alum, we shared stories of our experiences at SU and in the Marching Band. I will miss him terribly.
