John B. Folmer, 85, of Cortland, NY passed away on Sunday May 28, 2023. He was born on June 24, 1937, the son of the late Louis and Elizabeth Butler Folmer. John was a loving father, brother, grandfather, and friend. John served in the United States Army before going on to start his private practice as a lawyer. His commitment to various boards and service organizations in the Cortland County community was extensive. He was passionate about his time as a trombone player and narrator for the Old Timers Band and his involvement with Cortland Repertory Theater. He enjoyed spending time at his camp on DeRuyter Lake. John is survived by his children Todd Folmer, Jeffrey Folmer, Tiffany (Dewey) Lawrence, his grandchildren, and his sister-in-law Ginger Folmer. John is predeceased by his wife Carol Folmer, and his brother Richard Folmer. Calling hours will be held on Saturday June 3, 2023 from 10am-1:30pm, at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Ave., Cortland, NY. A funeral service will follow at 2pm, with pastor Stephanie Brown officiating. Burial with military honors will be held the on Monday June 5, 2023 at 10am, at the Cortland Rural Cemetery, 110 Tompkins St., Cortland, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cortland Repertory Theater, 24-26 Port Watson St., Cortland, NY 13045.
