Obituary of Robert Jack Williams

It is with the heaviest of hearts that the family of Robert "Jack" Williams announces his passing on December 29, 2023, at the age of 85. Jack passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side. Jack was born in Johnson City, New York in 1938. He graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1956 and attended Oswego State University. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Diane T. Williams, his Children, Kevin (Debbie) Williams, Therese (Dave) Eddy, Deborah (Pete) Elliott and Linda (Jim) Williams-Mahar, his grandchildren, Holly (Jason) Stillman, Katherine (Peter) Pistilli, Kelsey Elliott, Emily Elliott, Adam Williams, Anna Mahar, Julia Mahar, two great grandchildren, four nieces, and one nephew. Jack was predeceased by his brother Terry Williams and his parents Robert and Crosis Mary Williams. Jack worked for Crescent Corset Company for most of his career retiring as the Vice President. After retirement, he found enjoyment in his second profession as a meat cutter at the Homer IGA (Village Food Market). He very much enjoyed the interaction with all the customers, especially during the holidays, where he was part of a 130-year-old tradition preparing meats for special celebrations. Prior to retirement, Jack was involved in the Cortland City School Board of Education for 20+ years. During his time, he was president of the school board for many years, which gave him the honor of graduating all four of his children during their commencement. Jack served as a Cortland County Legislature and later was Chair and County Administrator. Jack enjoyed contributing to the community through his involvement with St. Anthony's Church, the Boy Scouts, and many other activities. He was truly happy when surrounded by his friends and family, when he was out fishing, and especially when he was dancing with Diane. Calling hours will be held at Wright Beard Funeral Home, Inc. 9 Lincoln Ave. Cortland on January 7, 2023, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM with a service immediately following at 1: 30 PM .
