Obituary of James Ferris

James Edward Ferris, 83, of Homer, was held in the arms of his loving family as they gently sang him Home.
March 8, 2024.
He was born on November 14, 1940 in Cortland, NY to his parents the late Aden Ferris and Marjorie (Brown) Ferris. James was a graduate of Mcgraw High School and went on to pursue a career in Music Education, earning his masters from Ithaca College. He taught at Homer Intermediate and Junior High School, specializing in instrumental education.
James was a renowned musician and was founder and band leader of the Misty Blues Band. He was well versed in all instruments, however, singing and sax were his passion. Being the music man he was, Jim brought joy to many others, sharing his gifts at family gatherings, nursing homes, Senior Centers and within his congregation at The Church of Blodgett Mills, a place he truly loved. Also, in addition to Music throughout his life Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and golf. Above all of these, his greatest pastime came from spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his son Jim (Terry) Ferris and daughter JoAnn (Todd) Wilcox; his sister Jane Eades (Greg); and 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James is predeceased by his brother Wayne, whom he enjoyed playing music with.
Calling Hours will be held on Saturday at the Church of Blodgett Mills from 10 to 10:45am, followed by a memorial service at the Church at 11am. Immediately following, all are welcome to join a fellowship luncheon at the church hall.
