Obituary of Mary E. Horvath

Mary Horvath, 69, of Cortland, NY, passed away on May 18th, 2024 peacefully at home.
She was born on January 15, 1955, in Washington D.C.. Mary led a colorful life and made countless friends in her many travels. She later went on to serve in the United States Army, utilizing her expertise as a cartographer. Mary made her career at SUNY Cortland, working for many years in their duplicating department. She was an active member of the CSEA and proudly supported Union activity in the workplace. She served as treasurer before stepping down and made many friends and memories there as well.
Mary succeeded in overcoming many setbacks in her life and retired to a quieter life. Her caring spirit made her still more friends in her Port Watson apartment building and she briefly served on the Tenants Committee.
Mary always had a garden to tend and people around her that loved her dearly for her beautiful soul and care free spirit. She was a friend and mother to all she met and her impact won’t be forgotten any time soon.
She is survived by her child Carmen Veil, her grandchildren Mars Natale and Rowen Wolf-Plunkett, her older siblings Joe Horvath and Patricia Tamargo, and her nieces and nephews; Alyssa Tamargo, Ricardo Tamargo, Marco Tamargo and Elyse Horvath along with their respective families.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Tuesday at 4pm at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home, Inc.
