Obituary of Royal W. Phillips

Please share a memory of Royal to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Royal W. Phillips passed away peacefully at his home on August 30, 2024. He was born June 21, 1951 to Webster and Elizabeth Phillips in Cortland, NY. He enjoyed golfing and the friendly competition with his friends Jason, Bob and Dick. He also loved watching sports; PGA golf, the Yankees and the Giants were his favorites. He found joy in traveling and vacationing with his family. His favorite spots included Montana, Sunset Beach, (where he had several friends), and several Civil War battlefields and their surrounding areas. One of his favorite pastimes in Sunset Beach was his morning dog walk with Schatzie with his friend Steve Sullivan and Lulu. He was involved in the Homer community as a youth summer baseball coach for several years. His commitment to the kids that he coached cannot be overstated- he helped shape the lives of several area boys by being an adult that they could trust, rely on and look up to. He was extremely generous, and would not hesitate to help anyone that needed it. Despite working odd hours at a tough and physical job, he always managed to be there for his family. Grampi's greatest joy was spending time with his grandsons fishing, playing ball and board games, drawing pictures and doing "jobs". He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Terri Phillips, his son Kurt (Heidi) Phillips, and grandsons Hudson and Rhys Phillips, brother James Phillips, nieces and nephew, his dearest friends Angela and David Stevens and Gene and Kathy Thompson of Montana. While those who loved him wish that they got more time with him, he lived a full life and did it his way. He was truly loved and will be missed. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the American Heart Association.
