Obituary of Kathleen M. Gilliland
Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathleen M. Gilliland, 77, our much-loved sister, aunt and friend, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024. Katheen was born June 8, 1947 to Gordon and Dorothy (Dietrich) Gilliland.
She spent the first half of her life with her loving parents in German, NY. Katheleen's second half of life was lived in various towns and cities where she enjoyed socializing and meeting new people. She spent many enjoyable hours working at JM Murray along with participating in outside activities through their day program. The activities she enjoyed the most were helping at the SPCA, horseback riding, bowling, pottery class and shopping for others. One of Kathleen's favorite pastimes was listening to country music where you would find her toes tapping and leg moving to the beat. Another was traveling to various cities and states, including Floride to Walt Disney World and to the "Top of the Rock" in NYC.
Kathleen will be remembered as someone who took pride in her appearance with her clothing, jewelry, hair and painted toes and nails. But mostly, by showing love and care for her family and friends. She lived her life happily and to the fullest.
Kathleen is survived by her sister Darlene Stafford, her special nieces RaeLynn (James) Hundley, CarriLynn (Chuck Loomis) Stafford and nephew James (Dawna) Stafford. She also leaves behind a brother, Robert Gilliland, sister-in-law Sue Gilliland and several other nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Agnes.
A special thank you to all those who cared for and loved Kathleen like she was family; individuals at JM Murray, Starr Rd., McGraw and most recently, Farm to Market Rd. There are too many individuals to list but know she loved all of you.
The family will be present to receive friends for visitation from 12:00 to 1:00 on Monday, September 16, 2024 at Wright-Beard Funeral Home, 9 Lincoln Avenue, Cortland, NY. A celebration of life will be held immediately after. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery, German, NY.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Kathleen, may be directed to a local SPCA agency.
