Yvonne Marie Barrett, 78, of McLean, New York, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 12th 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on July 28, 1946, in Cortland, the daughter of Robert and Marie Bennett. Yvonne's warm spirit, dedication to education, and love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Yvonne graduated from Dryden High School in 1964, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Gary James Barrett, on May 21, 1966. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised two amazing sons, Matthew Barrett (Julie) and Mark Barrett (Joy and daughter Elena). Yvonne's family was the center of her world, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Yvonne was a devoted educator who worked for 22 years as a Fourth Grade Special Education Teacher at Dryden Elementary School. Her passion for teaching was unwavering, and she touched the lives of many students and their families. Even after retiring, Yvonne continued to stay active in various programs that supported students, always striving to make a difference in her community.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Marie Bennett, her beloved husband Gary, and her cherished son Matthew. Yvonne leaves behind her son Mark, his wife Joy, and her precious granddaughter Elena, whom she loved dearly "to the moon and back." She also leaves her cherished sisters, Jeannette Frost and Nena Allen (Dennis), many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews who were a constant source of joy and love for her.
A celebration of Yvonne's life will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, the family requests that those wishing to honor her memory consider supporting causes related to education or other charitable organizations that reflect her spirit of giving.
Yvonne's legacy of love, teaching, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
